To bring disciplines such
as ophthalmology into sharper focus, it is possible to visualize the
connections among the refereed journals in this field. Using citations as
representing connective tissue, one can delineate what are called epistemiccommunities or knowledge networks that constitute a discipline of science.

brief perspective presents this analysis for ophthalmology. For more than three
